If you can get 100 views per video and upload a video every day you will get a nice check from Ad Sense every month. Lots of the vlogger families make so much money on youtube they quit their real jobs and just vlog full time. Then you get companies paying you and sending you free stuff to pretend like you really use things or shop certain places. Anyone can make money on youtube, just hit the monetize button on your videos. They mail out checks once a month. You can connect your youtube, website, and blogger all to the same adsense account so the money builds up on one check. Love them!

I don't think OP was questioning why people vlog; I think he was questioning why people have enough interest to watch it. I kind of have the same question. I am way older than the target demographic for, say, "Let's Play" videos (in my early 30s) and admittedly I have watched a few in my life but in general I don't get their appeal, nor do I get the appeal of "unboxing" videos, etc. If I want to watch something on YouTube, I want to learn something, or laugh. Not watch other people play video games that I could play myself, or watch other people live their lives. But for whatever reason "Let's Play", "unboxing", "shopping hauls", etc. are really popular right now and some people make a LOT of money doing those things.
I understand why people would monetize their videos. I just can't figure out who would want to watch them--besides the grandparents. lol.
I totally agree, everyone needs a chance to get some of the action, I am all about sharing, only wish that all of the real good/serious workers could get more of the action than the handful of scam workers.
