This sounds like a driver conflict to me, I agree with manz that the chkdsk isnt gonna do much, its mainly a hard drive and disk file checker...though it doesn't hurt to run it from time to time to make sure file integrity and windows files are kept in check. I have had this problem on an old dell laptop as well but with the internal sound card, it had to many driver update attempts that were failing and conflicting with one another. It was a total nightmare, finally lost my patience and just reformatted windows lol. Speaking of windows what version is on it?

Help me out, idk what driver conflict means. It is Windows 7. If it was offline for a while (6 months) would it have too many update attempts? Could it be that I just can't update Windows since I can't get online?

Just means drivers for your device, like if you were to update it too many times and its stuck in a never ending loop conflicting with other older drivers for the network card or newer updates for the card. I have seen and had it happen alot. Can be a pain in the a^& if you dont remove every trace of the driver first then start from scratch. Dont get concerned with this yet cause we dont even know what the problem is for sure yet ok.
Are you able to go online using LAN. If yes then I can take a look at it through Teamviewer once this chkdsk completes.
Good idea, I was thinking about citrix but forget it lol....way to complicating if you dont know what your doing.
If LAN means the cord that plugs into the router, then no, simply because I am using a neighbor's internet and he is asleep. That was the problem I ran into with tech forums, I couldn't tell them that. We are on way different schedules, so I haven't tried that yet. I may be able to try it tomorrow about 2 pm EST, if he has the right cord, if nothing else works.
