"They" are the members of the synagogue that I work for. Jewish custom is that you are not allowed to do any work on the Sabbath - and a holiday is considered a Sabbath, so they are not supposed to cook/write/make phone calls/send emails/have sex, at least according to the letter that the Rabbi sent out. There are more customs that I'm learning about - I guess they're not supposed to wear leather today either - but I'm still learning all the traditions. Either way, since the Holiday started at sundown yesterday, it meant I turned on my computer today and had 0 emails waiting. To clarify - my work for them normally takes at most an hour a day, but for the past 3 weeks or so, it has been non stop phone calls and emails from the members trying to arrange things for the holidays - and every email changes the instructions from the time before, it's driving me nuts. Also - they expect me to work today which is fine, I need the time to catch up - but at least for one day I won't get any emails telling me to change something else.

They are actually Reconstructionist - so essentially they pick and choose which rules they want to follow, and it varies quite a lot between members. Honestly can't tell you how many times someone has called me on a Saturday and started with "I know I'm not supposed to call on the Sabbath but..." So apparently it being the Sabbath **or my day off** wasn't important enough to make them not call.

Not being of most of your generation, I've taken ques from the conversations here. Many times over the last couple of years I've noticed the discouraging of the use of emoticons. In other words people were made fun of which I didn't understand because text is tough sometimes. Things get confused, you don't have visual clues to make intent clear.
