I was just reading about the 2017 solar eclipse. Didn't realize I was going to be so close to one, I'll only need to drive a couple of hours to be in the zone of totality. Should be really cool, I've heard that solar eclipses are a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Looking at the map, I am about 5 or 10 miles outside... maybe 30 minutes drive to get well into the zone.

Back in high school we had an annular eclipse (basically a solar eclipse where the distances are a bit off so you are left with a ring of sunlight) pass directly over the school. Happened during the final exam for my physics class. Our final exam was 10 multiple choice questions that took maybe 5 minutes then we spent the rest of the time outside watching the eclipse. Nice timing, I doubt the English or History teachers would have been so kind.

    Today's HITs

Back again with all of the HITs that were posted inside today's thread so far. =]

Just click on the button below and you will be brought to a page with all of the preview links on it. (It's on JSFiddle, which is like pastebin for code.)

You can right click the preview links and press T to open them in a new tab quickly. You can also use your middle mouse button. (Tab trick tested in: Chrome & Firefox)

Red links are visited and green links are not.

Note: If the Today's HITs button doesn't work try this link: https://jsfiddle.net/sn9Lpzbs/embedded/result/

mturk hates me today. I've done all of 42 HITs for $10 and just completed my 5th captcha.

That's pretty close to the same shot that I got. My pre-eclipse SuperMoon pic is much better.

They may be crap pay, but does any regular transcription requester (with the exception of the NASCARs) pay $0.50/minute of audio? I don't think CrowdSurf does (even with the volume bonus), and they're one of the better ones.

Doesn't change it is crap pay. Just because it is what other mturk requester are doing doesn't mean we should reward it. 50 cents per audio minute is half the minimum rate off of mturk. Given the standard amount of time taken to transcribe something 50 cents per audio minute corresponds to maybe slightly better than minimum wage if that since it is standard to have 4 hours for every hour of audio. That would mean that requester was paying a rate of 5.50 or so.

Heck if we based it off standard pay on mturk for similar types of hits we would have to give some receipt transcriptions good pay or some other absolutely atrocious things good pay.
