It was not always a given that the United States and America would have a close relationship.

I know I'm in a small minority on this one, but I think those George Bush flubs were partially intentional (if not totally). If you look at video of him in the 1970s when he first ran for the Rep House in Texas, he spoke perfect english. Very fluent ivy league accent... and he failed MISERABLY because of it. His opponent spoke with deep Texas drawl and all "folksy". Bush learned his lesson.

Those "mistakes" had the effect of making him seem like "one of the people" (his obsession given his aristocratic roots) and also had another welcome effect. The liberal media (the "elitist") would attack him for these mistakes, further cementing his support amongst the hard core right who seem to wallow in a victim mentality when it comes to the liberal media.

Another plausible explanation for his lack of fluency is also that he became a real hard core alcoholic. Maybe that explains the mistakes as well.

I still think it was practiced and pre-meditated.

Least us not forget who his father chose as vice-president

It is wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago. - Dan Quayle, former U.S. Vice-President

I don't think Gore could hold a candle to W.

Bank failures are caused by depositors who don't deposit enough money to cover losses due to mismanagement.

So I generally don't work around these times.

For those of you that do, how does this compare to say 8 00 CST onward?

    Money.

Right now it's 12 19 AM my time, I'm assuming you make **** all for money at this time, but I'm generally not around. How does this compare to the standard working hours that most people seem to suggest.

I don't know. I've seen others of him early on where the accent wasn't as pronounced. Was that from PBS doumentary on Bush, by the way?

Also, observers have said his defeat was because he seemed like an outsider, didn't talk like a local, etc.

But I do admit, he seems to have a Texas accent in that video.

I'll double check my sources. Maybe after the campaign he "miraculously" found a southern accent lol.
