Actually I'm going to totally walk back that specific part of my statement. Reading Bush's biography in some detail, although he did finish his high school in Andover Massachusetts, he did live quite a while as a youth in Midland, TX (and some time in Houston). Plus he did go back to TX and joined the National Guard, joined an oil company (did other odds jobs as well). So I totally off that he faked it. I went too far there. HOWEVER, I will still stick with my conclusion that he did become more "folksy" in order to shed his aristocratic roots (which didn't play well in rural texas). His opponent who defeated him in that 1978 race said that that was one of the lessons Bush learned from that defeat. I still think politics is a lot of theatre, a lot manipulation. And his handlers quickly saw the benefits of not-correcting any of those Bush gaffes for the reasons I described. So I was wrong about him faking the southern accent, but I think my other comments still hold some truth! But I still got you swagbucks, so that's pretty cool lol
