    those are probably the lines I'm proudest of out of anything I ever did. Such a pretty flower. I really loved being Pygmalion. I did.

    edit: did you know that an archaic definition for "fluent" is "a smooth and easy way" or "as water, effortlessly smooth and flowing"? I did, when I wrote that into the introduction for Aphrodite.

    A liberal? A democrat? I have hate enough for both their classes.

    She is no worse than many, and better than most. To pretend otherwise is to entertain a separate set of standards from the ones that elect men like Anthony Weiner and Ted Kennedy (who KILLED A WOMAN, let's not forget).

    If we can stomach Ted Kennedy after Chappaquiddick we have no grounds to complain about anything Hillary has ever done.

    The Lion of the Senate they called him. Practically Cicero.

    edit: a consonant

    I didn't, but I...it's hard to explain. That's how I pictured her moving, like water, so...that fits.

    Aphrodite's hardly an ifrit, though (however I was going to ask how Pygmalion would know to call her that, and discovered it was a Phoenician story first, which...fair enough)

    and...ifrit. That reminds me how long it's been since I've read Alamut, which...it's funny, Judith Tarr's other stuff is indifferent to passing, but for some reason this book: it rings like a bell all the way through. it's written in a way that hardly any moderns bother to write any more, that I've ever found anyway. The language is absolutely gorgeous; it knocks me over every time.

    *considers wandering off again*

    the single best part of ASOIAF is that Barristan Selmy, called the Bold, went into the damn tower of the Kingsguard and wrote an account of his dismissal before leaving the city and killing like six dudes in the process.

    He didn't want the book to be incomplete. I hope I would be someone like that. I'd probably be more like Sandor.

    I know where my myths come from. He accuses her of being like Persephone just after that because he's crazy, not because it's an intelligent narrative link. And even then it's just a sudden ugly accusation, to call her the queen of hell. I tried to capture the problem between artist and art, no doubt I failed.

    "Water, water, every where,
    And all the boards did shrink;
    Water, water, every where,
    Nor any drop to drink."

    I can smile at myself because I know am overly ambitious. And my Aphrodite is a demon even if yours is not. The castrated corpse adrift upon the seas must still belong to someone, and who can say that I am not the one who cuts?

    I think it's Winterfell that has the turnips, not really a beach, but Asha isn't strong on descriptive cleaving to a source.
