Well I learned something new today. I had no idea anyone asked you for that unless they were trying to involve you in a nigerian scam or something lol
It was to verify that it was my bank account. It's not the first time, linking bank accounts with other bank accounts. And I kinda have a feeling that paypal did it with my mom too, but I can't remember for certain. It's standard practice now, and if you're uncomfortable with it they offer an alternative. I highly doubt that amazon is going to pose any risk to my account, considering they have my account number routing number, social security number, first and last name, my birthday, my address, and my credit card number from various purchases. If they wanted into my bank account, they wouldn't have needed my password. They could've created a new one.
Besides, we would have heard something by now. Tens of thousands have given the password and nothing has happened. Just change the p-word afterwards...why wait 5 days for you money? edit: don't know it's been "tens of thousands," but it has more than a few!
I just don't think some of us have had experience with it so it sounded weird. All we ever hear is not to give out our passwords to anyone and even my own bank says they will never ask for it... so it just sounded strange. I don't think Amazon is out to do anything bad. Just hadn't heard of this.
Just about every budgeting or money managing app also uses your bank login info to connect accounts. Not that id use it but its been happening for years. Entirely safe, probably, maybe.
