If the HD has jumpers to switch it from master to slave, try it..It could be a problem with the bios finding the boot sector?
Have you tried a clean Windows install from fresh media, Mo? Maybe it's as simple as your recovery disk being shot.
Nope I haven't. My only copy of Windows is on those recovery disks that I made a few months ago and it's on the recovery partition. Only way to get to it is to go through this obnoxious slow/crashy interface regardless of which method I choose. Gotta love when they don't include it separately. This is my punishment for not upgrading to Win 10!!!!
So it sounds like people's payments are still going through, it's just that the processing time is now about 24 hours?
Seems that the process for Mturk to Amazon Payments is delayed. But the process of Amazon Payments to the bank account is fine. I got the email immediately for the transfer to the bank.
Don't know if you have access to a second computer or not. If you want to give it a shot, you may be able to download a Win 7 ISO from Microsoft here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 After that, you can get the drivers you need from the PC manufacturer's site. Another good way to test your machine is to see whether it will boot a live Linux thumb drive or DVD (again, that will require access to another computer to download and prepare the media).
Thanks! I thought about trying that - Linux or somethin'. I do have access to a laptop so I'm not compleeeetely screwed, minus the whole *typing on a laptop sucks* kind of thing. If I get desperate, I'll try that. I was so hoping the recovery stuffs would work so I could back up all my design and illustration files first, buuuut. >.<
In case anyone else decides to investigate why this McChicken mess is trending on the old social media, it's uh, NSFW... ...
As long as your hard drive is still functional (which it is, based on your tests), you can back up using a live Linux disk or thumb drive before doing a clean Windows install. If you boot into live mode (Ubuntu and Mint, for example, call it "try before installing"), you'll get slow but fully-functional OS without making any changes to your hard drive.
Unfortunately, my curiosity got the best of me. Is this Trump's real post about it https://mobile.twitter.com/reaDonaldTrump/status/769898885938503681 Okay . . . A spoof . . . Middle initial is different.
Didn't click, but that URL is missing the "l" in real. So no, probably a parody. And thanks, Phil! We'll see how desperate I get. I don't know the first thing about Linux, so that's a last resort lol.
If you do wind up burning a Win7 DVD and installing from it, and don't reformat the HD in the process, your files should still be there (it'll just rename the original \Windows directory to \windows.old and leave everything else alone). You'll still have to reinstall apps and stuff though.
