Ok my hypothesis is confirmed, the first time TBot makes the post was a year ago: http://mturkforum.com/showthread.php?34431-05-29-Holding-Places-Like-A-Boss-Sunday .. 6 likes 2nd time: http://mturkforum.com/showthread.php?34461-06-15-Holding-Places-Like-A-Boss-Wednesday 7 likes 3rd time: http://mturkforum.com/showthread.php?34497-06-29-Holding-Places-Like-A-Boss-Wednesday 2 likes and then you browse its recent posts and it's 0 likes... do you see my logic
a human posting a year ago would get the same likes today do you understand how the bot is hurting this forum?
I don't think anyone cares all that much really. It starts the thread for us and we go from there. The bot isn't hurting the forum. The owner of the forum IS hurting the forum by not maintaining it.
I mean if you don't follow my logic or don't believe me or any of that you should test hiding the "bot" from the name for a few days and see it get new likes/visitors
yeah I get the feeling people don't care much is why it's gotten this ridiculous for a year but I'm talking about new traffic, like I get it when a site owner doesn't care but if the moderators themselves care like you, you should nurture traffic, do you realize how bad bots are for communities, it removes the human element from something that's built on human interaction, it is all the rage nowadays but as soon as a human visitor detects it's a bot doing the work it makes teh community seem less thriving which is probably the case but you shouldn't let new visitors know this fact with things like bots creating threads
This was entertaining to read so i might as well give my opinion. Sure it does make the forum seem soulless or less alive because its a bot but i would say most dont notice it and i say most meaning the current forum users. Most of the forum people have actually left and what you said does make it seem more vacant but at the same time it really doesn't matter in the current mturk forum here because of what i just stated. Even if it was made by a human every day it wouldn't make the forum more popular or even matter in the least. As they say if you don't like it then don't use it. I personally don't care about it myself but i suppose removing the bot part of the name and having it make a thread at a normal hour isn't bad. Its just a hassle that wouldn't change anything. Also for your information >.> i think the whole tjbot thing with the mlp is cute. It reminds me of a tiny sentient ai pony. But i suppose its whatever you think about bots and ais really >.> i love ai stuff.
How has every single other thing I've said been negative? I'm coming in with a fresh set of eyes to an obviously dead forum, and I'm seeing the things that make it stay that way instead of growing, and I'm thinking of ways to make it grow since I want to be part of the community...
Fearless Friday? The bot is stealing my ideas. Good morning.
The forum is dead because the owner doesn't fix issues that we have. The forum was broken for a week. People left because they didn't want to wait around for it to be fixed. The owner finally fixed it after a week. A week is too long for a forum for it to be broken. The forum isn't dead because of a bot that makes the thread. That's the least of our problems. If you're new, you don't know the history of the forum which is why you view it differently.
I too concur that most are oblivious to it now after a year, I'm saying the reason this forum has experienced stagnant growth has got to be its inactivity and a bot visibly creating a thread cannot help that in any way whatsoever, like I've never visited a forum where bots had to create threads it just paints this picture of something being wrong. It's great that you think that hiding 'bot' from the name is a great first step and i see your join date was recent so you have fresher eyes than most like me. What makes you believe it would be a hassle though? can the bot not be easily renamed to something more human? The pony is a good avatar though.
This is why I'm certain you haven't been reading what I typed, as I never claimed the bot was the reason this forum is dead. I'm saying the bot does nothing to hide that fact, which should be a top priority if you want to experience growth. As current users leave MTurk, the membership will only shrink if growth isn't fostered, and a user with 'bot' in their name creating the first post of every thread every day does not help this at all!
Morning Lacie! Minus the coffee, that sounds good! Maybe milk to go with the donut. Today is a free donut day! I don't live near one unfortunately.
You told me why the forum died but you're unwilling to listen to why it stays dead, a site owner does not have all the power the power is in the community and its mods... this site stays dead because it LOOKS dead to new visitors like me when it doesn't have to be that way at all, and it starts with small fixes like removing bot from the name
We are suppose to get a DD this year. Hope it happens. Last time i got my hopes up and it became a starbucks.. yuck.kin. i want my donuts!
